Pochi impresari musicali hanno avuto un effetto così duraturo e profondo sulla cultura popolare come Berry Gordy, imprenditore e fondatore della Motown, i cui successi gli sono valsi il Pioneer Award della Songwriters Hall of Fame. Gordy fondò la Tamla Record, che sarebbe diventata poi la Motown, a Detroit nel 1959. L’etichetta fondeva diversi generi musicali, tra cui R & B, soul, blues e doo-wop, e sarebbe diventata un impero musicale che avrebbe lanciato le carriere di artisti come The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye e Smokey Robinson, solo per citarne alcuni. Questo cd raccoglie alcune delle migliori produzioni che Berry Gordy ha realizzato per l’etichetta Tamla-Motown e alcune delle sue etichette sussidiarie come Miracle, Gordy e Mel-o-dy, tra il 1959 e il 1962. Sono riuniti in questo cd brani classici come “Shop Around” (The Miracles), “I Want a Guy” (The Marvelettes), “Money” (Barrett Strong), “I Don’t Want to Take a Chance (Mary Wells) e molti altri.
